Abbreviations of five initials are not very common in compuíer terminology since their long might coníravene the principies of brevity and conciseness that are the bai lexical resource, known as abbreviation. Among the scarce examples i abbreviations formed by five or more initials we find 'YAHOO' (from Ye1 Hierarchically Officious Oracle.
But íhe most common simple abbreviations in computen terminology are . formed by three and four initials. They also give rise to more errors conce1 • translation ín Spanish. Therefore, we wiil concéntrate on íhern in the r¡ paper. Some e-xamples of íhree-initial abbreviations are 'RAM', 'ROM', 'LC 'ISP', 'IRC', 'URL', etc and among four-initial abbreviations we find 'ADSL .'HTML', ISDN', 'MPEG', etc
